Abstract

Partial Discharge (PD) is a confined dielectric breakdown of a little segment of a robust or liquid electrical protection framework under high voltage stretch, which does not connect the space between two conduits. PD is one of the main failure to the high voltage equipment. It can cause insulation deterioration in high voltage apparatus. PD occur without any notification or sign. In order to avoid PD from happen, early detection of insulation deterioration is required to adequate identify the cause of damage to the insulation material and to find a solution in accelerating the process and locate a technique for a PD monitoring system. In real situation, the time for real PD to happen is unpredictable. The PD pulse calibrator can give the same real pulse characteristics as the real PD pulse. Hence, it can help to testing the high voltage equipment without need to wait a real PD pulse. This research presents a process of understanding the PD characteristic and method of measurement as well as various implementation and measurement techniques. In order to build a real PD pulse, MATLAB Simulink and Proteus 8.6 Software are being used to design, doing the simulation and get the results. In the simulation, the IC 555 timer circuit, filter circuit series and switching circuit has been combined together to complete the circuit. The results from the simulation being verified in the hardware. The real PD pulse calibrator circuit have been construct based on the success of the simulation.
