Abstract

ABSTRACT Cloud computing technology and services are now considered to be one of the most significant issues and hotly debated by many experts in the Information Technology (IT) industry. This study evaluates the impact of organizational factors on cloud adoption in Small Medium Enterprises (SME). Multiple factors influencing cloud adoption were chosen as the main purpose of this study. The focus of this study leads to the usage of the Technology, Organization, and Environment (TOE) framework as a famous theory on the evaluation of IT adoption. For this study, organizational context is divided into three main factors based on the TOE framework. Three sets of critical success factor criteria were taken from previous studies to review each one of the three organizational factor’s levels. The proposed framework in this study which comprises the TOE framework, organizational factors, and critical success factors criteria is targeted to be useful for SMEs which are planning to evaluate or upgrade their current organizational condition and continue to adopt the cloud-based services. This framework will be examined empirically on selected local Malaysian SMEs which applied cloud computing technology for their organization. Results on data collected through questionnaire analysis using statistical software package tools such as Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and SmartPLS can help to indicate whether the top management support, company size, and technology readiness clearly contribute positive effect towards cloud adoption or not, especially for the respective SME involved in this research.
