Abstract

The study aims to investigate the effect of outdoor education camp programs on the resilience of Physical Education program undergraduate students from selected universities in Malaysia. It also explores the relationship of ego-resilience, social supports, and personal effectiveness and locus of control, and the ranking of activity that encourage resilience improvement. The study also attempts to shed light upon the delayed effect after two-month completion of the program. A pre-test and post-test approach were utilized among 162 undergraduate students from two public universities in Malaysia. A modified version of Connor-Davidson Scale, Ego-Resilience, Personal Effectiveness and Locus of Control, and Social Supports were used to gather data from pre, post and delayed post-test. Results from Paired Sample T-test, MANOVA and MANCOVA procedures suggested that the program had positively improved the students’ resilience. Previous experience, place of residence, gender and universities were found to have no significant influence on the improvement of resilience in short term program. However, ego-resilience, personal effectiveness and locus of control and social supports were found to have a significant influence on the improvement of resilience in short term program. Responses from the participants also indicated that the ranking of activity from low risk to high risk were an appropriate method to improve students’ resilience
